Tiny Hellboy By Jon Morris

Did this up last night. Awkward working in OC, but I thought I’d try it again. I think I’ll be returning to Photoshop tonight.

The lineart is Jon’s total rocking of Hellboy.

Fabricari Inspirati

Today is Fabricari creator Steve Harrison’s birthday. I hope it rocks, and I hope his next year rocks too!
His birthday reminds me of this podcast and this one, wherein he and Goonsquad buddy Justin Martin discuss growing up a comic geek and wannabe creator, and then having trouble getting the actual work DONE. Most of it is stuff I’ve been through, so I really appreciated some of the ideas Fabs was throwing around to get him drawing again. One of ‘em was to draw lil’ four-page comics/ Somethin’ low-commitment, y’know? Less pressure to be “perfect.” I you’ve ever gone through anything similar you should check it out.

Thanks for another year of bein’ an inspiration Steve!

Iniquity in Blue

The neck’s all cramped down, but I’m still lovin’ it; I’m starting to feel the medium and enjoy it. Its really got me drawing and painting again. Next stop is color.

Man, this was tough.  Prolly took about an hour for Felicia last night, and then the bg was scribbled on-and-off today till I got sick of it.  Now to relax.

I’m quite happy with how Felicia turned-out though.  She looks nearly as awesome and adohable as real life. Sorry the backgrounds so weak tho, doll.

Done in about a half hour. Just a hard brush, and a brush I made for hair.

Waaay too closeSelf Portrait

Looking at ‘em side-by-side its obvious that I didn’t make my cheeks puffy enough. Pretty happy with it overall though.

Photoshop Brushes, the warm-up

Jul. 15th, 2006 | 02:26 am

Originally published at AsaTron::2000. You can comment here or there.

Just fooling around in Photoshop, trying to get the hang of some of the natural media brushes that come with it. I ended-up going through, scribbling with each one and either deleting it from the palette or modifying it and saving that version. Most of the mods were simply setting opacity to pen pressure - nothing fancy.

Brush scribblings
Gonna get up early in the morn and try some actual individual sketches for each brush. Prolly end-up working from photo-reference. Haven’t done that in … ever probably. At least since high-school. Oy.

Robin Chyo makes an impresion

Feb. 24th, 2006 | 06:31 am

Let's see if Robin Chyo can stay an inspiration to me throughout the day while I try to fill-up ten sketchbook pages. As is perpetually the case for me, I'm trying to draw regularly. The Double-Dees (Deme and Drawn ) have been a great help, as has music.

The real issue though is what am I trying to do here? I guess, even though I've always thought I was gonna be one, I'm clearly not a comic-book artist. Should I just be a guy with a boring tech job that does comics on the side? I guess that's where I'm going. But that's not even the real issue here, the issue is when am I ever going to just do my fucking comics?

Not talk about doing them, just fucking do them.

Deme and I are helping each other push ourselves farther in everyday life and art. I've got to thank him for never giving-up on me. For years he's been pushing me past my doubts and bullshit insecurities, and I think he's finally happy that it's getting through.

Schmacky said to me last year "There's no fucking excuse for you to not be doing comics."

Good Jaerb USM!

Jan. 3rd, 2006 | 04:52 pm

From a BBC article:

Hussein al-Falluji, a lawyer and a national leader of the Sunni-dominated Iraqi Accordance Front, said: "Once again the occupiers have shown their barbarism. They never learn from their mistakes... People's resentment is increasing."

Somehow I still get angry every time I see one of these stories.

Doom!

Jan. 1st, 2006 | 07:35 am

Man, we died around 4-ish. I got 7 pages done. I just couldn't get myself to loosen-up in the early running, so I ended-up over-working every page. Spent double-time on each page. Oy. No monthlies in my future.

As I promised, I'll post scans tomorrow. Sleep.

9:18pm quick update while coffee brews

Dec. 31st, 2005 | 10:17 pm

Ok. After a late start at 1:30pm, we're off and running. Of course I've had a ton of delays due to frustration and stress, but I'm slowly developing a groove. Deme's w-a-a-a-y ahead of my 6 pages with his 14.

Maybe scans after midnight, if I can get back on schedule.
Thanks for the comments and support guys!

Back to work.
